Thigh lift - Thighplasty
Reshape your legs and really enjoy summer
Weight loss can result in excess skin around the thigh area that no amount of exercise will shift. If you have managed to lose a lot of weight you want to show off your new body, so you don’t want to feel inhibited about your thighs.
A thigh lift can give you firmer, more toned looking upper legs, so you’ll feel great about swimming and wearing shorts.
Considering Thighplasty?
There are some common questions that many people who are considering a thigh lift ask, such as:
Thighplasty is a very individualised procedure, and the outcome will be different for everyone. That is why before you make any decisions you will have a consultation with Dr Hunt to discuss your needs and goals for the surgery.
During your first consultation, Dr Hunt will evaluate
your general health and explain the recommended surgical procedure including
the risks and potential complications and your recovery time.
Photographs will be taken for your medical record and to allow Dr Hunt to fully plan your surgery.
Dr Hunt's assistant will prepare a quote for you, which will include the surgical, anaesthetic, and hospital fees.
There are a number of different ways to perform thigh surgery, depending on the areas of concern.
- Inner (or Medial) thigh lift. The inside of the thighs are very difficult to shape through exercise. A inner thigh lift involves an incision along the junction between the thigh and pubic area and removal of loose skin, and if necessary fat.
- Outer (or Lateral) thigh lift. This procedure tightens the skin on the front and outside of the thigh.
- Inner (Medial) thigh lift with liposuction. This procedure tightens the skin at the top of the inner thigh; the effects do extend further down the inner thigh than a lift alone lift.
All thigh lifts are performed under a general anaesthetic, given by an anaesthetist, in an accredited hospital, so you are assured of the best care.
Before surgery begins Dr Hunt will have you stand and will mark the incision lines on your thighs. After the surgery you will have a scar on your thigh, but it will often be hidden by swimwear or underwear.
You will stay in hospital for at least one night following surgery. Once you are comfortable and able to get to and from a bathroom you will go home.
When
you go home you should limit your movements to around the house for 2 to 3
days.
When you are discharged you will be given a prescription for pain medication, which will minimise your discomfort. You should take only the pain medication prescribed, and eat before you take it or it might upset your stomach.
Eat lightly for 3 to 4 days after surgery and then resume you normal diet.
Make sure you get plenty of fluids.
Will I have to return for post-operative care?
You will return to see Dr Hunt within a week of your surgery, and several times over the following weeks and months.
You should plan on taking at least 3 weeks off work.
When can I resume my normal activities?
You will feel tired and sore for 3 to 7 days after surgery.
You will be wearing a compression garment continuously for 2 to 3 weeks, and then at night for a further 2 to 3 weeks. This will help define the new contour of your thighs.
You must not do any activities that increase your heart rate above 100 beats per minute for 3 weeks.
You can resume all exercise in 6 weeks if Dr Hunt agrees.
When will I see the end result?
The effect of a thigh lift is immediate, and once you remove the compression garment you will b able to see the new shape. The final effect may not be apparent for a few months.
There will be some scarring, although it will usually be hidden in an area that will be covered by underwear or swimwear.
